| Coop’s Top Ten Fantasy Quarterbacks “The passing game has become so significant that this year, with the exception of Adrian Peterson, I would take any of my top 3 choices with the second, third and fourth picks in all your Fantasy drafts.” Coop #1 with a Bullet, Andrew Christopher Brees finished 15 yards short of beating Dan Marino’s 1984 record for passing yards thrown in a single season. What I really respect about Drew is he had the opportunity to break the record on the last play of the game but elected to throw a Hail Mary to try and beat Carolina instead. Nevertheless, the NFL’s top gunslinger finished the season with 5,069 yards and became only the second quarterback in NFL history to throw for over 5,000 yards in a season. He also passed for 300 yards ten times during the season, tying Rich Gannon's 2002 record. #2, Peyton Williams Manning, holds NFL records for consecutive seasons with over 4,000 yards passing, and the most total seasons with 4,000 or more yards passing in a career. Manning holds the highest career passer rating among active quarterbacks and his 94.7 rating puts him second all-time behind Steve Young only. In 2004 he set a single season NFL passing TD record with 49. "That guy's pretty good, if you like six-five, 230-pound quarterbacks with a laser rocket arm..." #3, Thomas Edward "Tom" Brady Jr., has played in four Super Bowls, winning three of them (XXXVI, XXXVIII, XXXIX). He has also won two Super Bowl MVP awards (XXXVI and XXXVIII), has been selected to 5 Pro Bowls and holds the NFL record for 50 TD's in a single regular season. He also owns the fourth highest career passer rating of all time (92.9). Oh yeah, and he has Randy Moss and Wes Welker to throw to. #4, Philip Rivers, signed a 6-year, $92 million contract extension with the Chargers this past August, with approximately $38 million guaranteed. In 2008 Rivers had the highest quarterback rating in the NFL with a league leading 34 Touchdown passes, 105.5 Passer Rating, and a league best 8.4 yards per pass attempt. On December 28, 2008, Rivers holds the Chargers team record for touchdown passes, previously held by Hall of Famer Dan Fouts, who had 33 in 1981. #5, Jay Christopher Cutler, holds the follwing Denver Bronco single season passing records - Passssing yards: 4,526 - Pass completions: 384 - Pass attempts: 616 and 300-yard passing games: 8. It took him just two years as a starter to erase that many Elway records. He will become the greatest quarterback in the 89 year history of the Chicago Bears and it begins this season. #6, Kurtis Eugene "Kurt" Warner, owns the three biggest single-game passing yardage totals in Super Bowl history. Behind Steve Young and Peyton Manning, Warner is ranked third all-time in career passer rating with a 93.8 mark. Statistically, he is also the second-most accurate quarterback in NFL history. Warner threw for 30 TD's last season with his best TD seasons coming in 2001 with 36 and 41 TD's in 1999. Warner has tossed over 200 TD's in his 10 year NFL career. With the best Wide Receiver tandum in the NFL, look for his 11th season to be another record breaking year. #7, Antonio Ramiro Romo, has already surpassed Troy Aikman with 16 300+yards passing games and holds Cowboy's season records with 7 300-yard games, 36 TD's, and 335 completions. He has become the first Dallas Quarterback to ever pass for more than 4000 yards. In 2006 he tied the Cowboy record with 5 TD passes in one game. #8, Aaron Charles Rodgers, passed for over 4000 yards and 29 TD's in his first season as a starter for Green Bay. He's in a perfect system to put up these kind of numbers for the next decade. As much as I can't stand the way the Packers treated Favre, this guy is the real deal and will be a top ten Fantasy quarterback throughout his career. #9, Donovan Jamal McNabb is the Eagles all-time leader in career wins, pass attempts, pass completions, passing yards, and passing touchdowns. In 2007 his Eagles defeated the Detroit Lions in a 56-21 win. McNabb completed 21 out of his 26 attempted passes for 381 yards. Four of those passes went for touchdowns. His brilliant performance against the Lions was highlighted by his first perfect (158.3) Quarterback Rating. Last season he passed the Eagles all the way to the NFC Championship game, finishing the season with huge passing games against The Cowboys, Vikings, Giants and Cardinals. Last season McNabb threw for a career best 3916 yards and the addition of Michael Vick will just make him better. #10 – Three Way Tie Eli Manning. One of my Fantasy Football colleages recently told me he’s going to settle down into a Troy Aikman role. I don’t see it that way. This guy just got paid 97 million dollars because he is as capable as any QB in the NFL to turn into a passing machine. The best of Eli is coming and this season will be his breakout year. Matt Schaub. He led the #3 overall offense in the NFL last season and threw for over 400 yards in a duel with Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers. Schaub will have a monster season this year if he can just stay healthy. Brett Favre. What can I say? He holds every NFL passing
record and is playing on a team that was only missing a quarterback. George
Blanda played QB until he was 45; that makes Brett a spring chicken. Favre
will be a fantasy scoring machine this season and, for everyone who says
he can’t stay healthy for an entire year, Brett has one more record
– most consecutive starts in NFL history. Nuff Said! |
