He’s the NFL’s only 3 time MVP, he’s thrown
for more yards and more touchdowns than any quarterback
in NFL history and he won the Packers their only Super
Bowl in the past 40 years. If Brett Farve says he wants
to come back you let him. Nobody has earned the right
more than Farve. Remember, it was only last year he took
his team to an overtime game to decide yet another Super
Bowl appearance.
Do you honestly think that if John Elway
after his tearful goodbye would have been turned away
if he said, “I want to come back one more time.” Can you
imagine Mike Shanahan saying “Well, John, we’ve been prepping
Brian Greise for the past four months and it wouldn’t
be fair to him mentally for you to step in.” I don’t think
so and history has shown us what became of the great Bronco’s
when their best rider retired.
Aaron Rodgers is simply a wild card. Last
year he had a couple of moments in a loss to Dallas but
the Packers want to put that up against arguably the best
quarterback to ever play the game. What are they… Cheese
Heads?
Apparently they are because it’s being
reported that instead of thanking the gods that Brett
still wants to play, Green Bay ownership is just trying
to talk the old man into staying at home in his wheelchair
minding his garden. Oh Brett, surely you don’t want to
play another year when during your retirement announcement
in March you were fine physically.
If I were Brett Farve it would be easy
for me to say goodbye to the Packers now. I would ask
for my release and then immediately step into the starting
job in Minnesota. I would promptly route the Packers twice
in this upcoming season on my way to another Super Bowl
victory with the best defense, best offensive line and
best running back in football.
Who really cares if Brett is a Packer
at this point. Joe Montana finished as a Chief, and Johnny
Unitas was a Charger, Joe Namath a Ram, OJ. Simpson a
49er, Emmitt Smith a Cardinal and yes, even Chicago Bears
Super Bowl quarterback, Jim McMahon, finished his career
winning a Super Bowl with the Packers.
We deserve another year of Brett Farve;
he doesn’t want to end his career with a ‘what if’ and
who could blame him. If the Green Bay Packers are so full
of themselves that they can’t look a gift horse in the
mouth then they deserve their fate of losing for another
40 years.
Meanwhile, we fans deserve to see the
Greatest go out on top with the Vikings and, frankly,
I can’t wait to see Mike McCarthy and Ted Thompson both
fired in three years… being pelted with cheese balls as
they are run out of town after making the cheesiest move
in NFL history. I’ll end with two predictions:
Vikings 35 Patriots 31 - 2009
Super Bowl MVP Brett Farve
